Abstract: Designing logic circuits using complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology at the nano scale has been faced with various challenges recently. Undesirable leakage currents, the short-effect channel, and high energy dissipation are some of the concerns. represent an appropriate alternative for possible CMOS replacement in the future because it consumes an insignificant amount of energy compared to the standard CMOS. The key point of designing arithmetic circuits is based on the structure of a 1-bit . A low-complexity block is beneficial for developing various intricate structures. This paper represents scalable 1-bit QCA structures based on cell interaction. Our proposed s encompass preference aspects of QCA design, such as a low number of cells used, low latency, and small area occupation. Also, the proposed structures have been expanded to larger circuits, including a 4-bit , a 4-bit ripple borrow subtractor (RBS), an , and a 2-bit array . All designs were simulated and verified using QCA Designer-E version 2.2. This tool can estimate the energy dissipation as well as evaluate the performance of the circuits. Simulation results showed that the proposed designs are efficient in complexity, area, latency, cost, and energy dissipation.

Abstract: New technologies such as have been showing some remarkable characteristics that standard complementary-metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) in deep sub-micron cannot afford. Modeling systems and designing multiple-valued logic gates with QCA have advantages that facilitate the design of complicated logic circuits. In this paper, we propose a novel creative concept for . The concept has been set in , the new simulator developed by our team exclusively for QCAs’ quaternary mode. Proposed basic gates such as MIN, MAX, and different types of inverters (SQI, PQI, NQI, and IQI) have been designed and verified by . This study will exemplify how fast and accurately works by its handy set of CAD tools. A 1×4 decoder is presented using our proposed main gates. Preference points such as the minimum delay, area, and complexity have been achieved in this work. QQCA main logic gates are compared with based on carbon nanotube field-effect transistor (CNFET). The results show that the proposed design is more efficient in terms of latency and energy consumption.

Spin polarization strategy to deploy proton resource over atomic-level metal sites for highly selective CO electrolysis

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 12,   Pages 1772-1781 doi: 10.1007/s11705-022-2197-4

Abstract: Unlocking of the extremely inert C=O bond during electrochemical CO2 reduction demands subtle regulation on a key “resource”, protons, necessary for intermediate conversion but also readily trapped in water splitting, which is still challenging for developing efficient single-atom catalysts limited by their structural simplicity usually incompetent to handle this task. Incorporation of extra functional units should be viable. Herein, a proton deployment strategy is demonstrated via “atomic and nanostructured iron (A/N-Fe) pairs”, comprising atomically dispersed iron active centers spin-polarized by nanostructured iron carbide ferromagnets, to boost the critical protonation steps. The as-designed catalyst displays a broad window (300 mV) for CO selectivity > 90% (98% maximum), even outperforming numerous cutting-edge M–N–C systems. The well-placed control of proton dynamics by A/N-Fe can promote *COOH/*CO formation and simultaneously suppress H2 evolution, benefiting from the magnetic-proximity-induced exchange splitting (spin polarization) that properly adjusts energy levels of the Fe sites’ d-shells, and further those of the adsorbed intermediates’ antibonding molecular orbitals.

Design and evaluation of a novel biopsy needle with hemostatic function

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2023, Volume 18, Issue 2, doi: 10.1007/s11465-022-0738-7

Abstract: Biopsy is a method commonly used for early cancer diagnosis. However, bleeding complications of widely available biopsy are risky for patients. Safer biopsy will result in a more accurate cancer diagnosis and a decrease in the risk of complications. In this article, we propose a novel biopsy needle that can reduce bleeding during biopsy procedures and achieve stable hemostasis. The proposed biopsy needle features a compact structure and can be operated easily by left and right hands. A predictive model for puncture force and tip deflection based on coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian (CEL) method is developed. Experimental results show that the biopsy needle can smoothly deliver the gelatin sponge hemostatic plug into the tissue. Although the hemostatic plug bends, the overall delivery process is stable, and the hemostatic plug retains in the tissue without being affected by the withdrawal of the needle. Further experiments indicate that the specimens are well obtained and evenly distributed in the groove of the outer needle without scattering. Our proposed design of biopsy needle possesses strong ability of hemostasis, tissue cutting, and tissue retention. The CEL model accurately predicts the peak of puncture force and produces close estimation of the insertion force at the postpuncture stage and tip position.

Frontiers of Medicine 2007, Volume 1, Issue 4,   Pages 401-404 doi: 10.1007/s11684-007-0078-3

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of copper/low-density polyethylene nanocomposite (nano-Cu/LDPE) on the endometrial angiogenesis in rats, and 100 sexual mature female SD rats were randomly divided into five groups: sham-operation groups (SO group, = 20), bulk copper groups (Cu group, = 20), LDPE groups ( = 20), nano-Cu/LDPE groups I ( = 20) and II ( = 20). The levels of angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2), its receptor (Tie-2) and CD34 of the rats endometria in each group were examined by using the S-P method of the immunohistochemistry 30 and 180 days after insertion, respectively. Compared with those in the SO group, the expression of Ang-2 and Tie-2 in all the experimental groups was obviously increased 30 days after insertion, and these parameters in nano-Cu/LDPE groups, except for Ang-2 level in nano-Cu/LDPE group II, were significantly lower in comparison with those in Cu group (<0.05). On the 180th day after insertion, Ang-2 and Tie-2 levels were still higher in Cu group and LDPE group, but there was no difference of Ang-2 and Tie-2 levels between nano-Cu/LDPE groups and the SO group (>0.05). Compared with those in the SO group, the significant increases in microvessel density (MVD) were observed on the 30th and the 180th day after the insertion of the bulk copper (<0.05). There was no significant difference in MVD counts before and after the insertion of nano-Cu/LDPE (>0.05). The results show that Nano-Cu/LDPE have slighter influence on the endometrial angiogenesis than bulk copper.

Regulation and function of histone acetyltransferase MOF

Frontiers of Medicine 2014, Volume 8, Issue 1,   Pages 79-83 doi: 10.1007/s11684-014-0314-6

Abstract:

The mammalian MOF (male absent on the first), a member of the MYST (MOZ, YBF2, SAS2, and Tip60) family of histone acetyltransferases (HATs), is the major enzyme that catalyzes the acetylation of histone H4 on lysine 16. Acetylation of K16 is a prevalent mark associated with chromatin decondensation. MOF has recently been shown to play an essential role in maintaining normal cell functions. In this study, we discuss the important roles of MOF in DNA damage repair, apoptosis, and tumorigenesis. We also analyze the role of MOF as a key regulator of the core transcriptional network of embryonic stem cells.
